POLICE in India have arrested a man in connection with the gruesome discovery of at least four headless torsos outside a New Delhi jail, it was reported overnight.
The suspect was arrested yesterday, two days after a fourth body, dismembered and headless, was found outside the city's Tihar Jail.
A letter left with the body said the killer had served time in Tihar for a crime he did not commit and was treated badly in jail, the Indian Express reported.
The letter said the killings, which began in December 2005, would continue, and challenged police to catch the murderer.
A Delhi court ruled on Tuesday the suspect could be kept in custody for a week for interrogation.
Indians have been reeling from the discovery of serial killers in their midst in recent months after gruesome killings in a neighbourhood called Nithari outside the Indian capital, New Delhi, drew widespread attention to such crimes.
Many bags of bones and other human remains were found there in December following complaints by poor residents that dozens of their children had been sexually assaulted and murdered over the previous two years.
