A 63-year-old woman was sexually violated by an intruder in her Hastings home last night.
Detective Constable Marty James, of Hastings CIB, said the woman, who was alone and sleeping, was woken by torchlight in the hallway of her Tawa St, Mahora, home about 3am.
The man entered the woman's bedroom where he bound her with clothing and forced her from her bed and into the lounge.
There he sexually violated her and then demanded cash, food and her ANZ ATM card before leaving on foot, Mr James said.
He is described as Maori, mid 20s, 1.7-1.77m tall, medium build, and wearing a light coloured hoodie. The woman said he also had a high-pitched voice and smelt of alcohol.
Police would like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Mahora area last night.
